For expert and layman alike

Fuller's excellent work does a good job of making the complexities of Hinduism comprehensible even to a non-expert--not an easy task. The Hindu religion is of course not an institution in the Western sense, but rather a collection of beliefs and practices, ever-changing, in many cases highly local, and bewildering to the Western monotheistic mind with its "330 million" gods. Its complexities both drive and result from the infinite complexities of Indian society itself, and an understanding of Hinduism is crucial for any understanding of the country. I read the book in preparation for my second trip to India, and it made the experience infinitely more enjoyable and understandable.
Fuller's explanation of the principle of "hierarchy" as the underpinning for both Hinduism and Indian society as a whole was very enlightening, as one realizes that it is completely antithetical to Western thought which values individual freedom above all else. Particularly good is the description of the structure of Hindu worship, or "puja," which despite its infinite variations Fuller contends consists of 16 (more or less) steps, of offerings and services to the deity. The description of the caste system, which bears almost no relationship to the Western notion of class, is excellent. Fuller's explanation of the concept of purity, and how it drives the status and treatment of women, is also very good.
More casual readers may feel a bit bogged down as later chapters explore more esoteric subjects such as devotionalism and village rituals. From a scholarly point of view, I'd say this book is at the college text level, and like college texts it gets more complex as you work your way through. But this work is more than worth it even if you focus on the first few chapters. Highly recommended!

Filling the gap

Fuller provides an up-to-date presentation of the popular practice of Hinduism in India. Using ethnographic data and personal field research in a Minakshi temple in south India, Fuller provides a window into daily worship unladen with ancient textual scriptures and controversial philosophies, however, giving careful representation of the traditional, and mainly centralist, view of Hinduism as a point of reference. Fuller presents the basic why's of Hindu practice in an easy-to-follow format and language throughout the text. Beginning with an anthropological account of Hindu society in India, he continues with chapters on gods and goddesses, worship, sacrifice, rituals, devotion, pilgrimage, and misfortune, giving special attention to women's issues in the second chapter on devotion. I found this work extremely helpful in understanding the practical application of many previous works' attention to the Vedic texts and philosophies. A work of this subject and caliber had been lacking in Hindu scholarship until this book.

The best Airbus A380 book ever written !!!

Just recieved this book and I gotta say it is simply stunning. Lavishly illustrated it chronicles a flight on the A380 in incredible detail starting from preflight to approach and landing. The writer, an A380 captain, explains in great detail all the aircraft systems and what is needed to fly this giant on a flight from London to Dubai. This book is for pilots or aviation enthusiasts who are familiar with all the technical jargon. It is not recommended for little kids or for the average layman.And at only $22 its a relative bargain.

From the start, the book jumps into the modern operations of an airliner. The A380 aircraft systems and equipment are explained in detail as the flight progresses from London to Dubai. For the uninitiated, Airbus design philosophy of this aircraft is introduced. A great book for all aviation enthusiast.

Turns out that there are many people who are turned on about flying. When I was a boy, sometimes I would stand at the end of the runway of New York's Laguardia Airport and watch the extremely heavy machines defy gravity as they lifted off the runway. I later found out that there are many people like me, including to my surprise my son. "Flying the Airbus A380 is a book written for people like me, people who while seated in a plane wish they could view the flight from the cockpit. When I was younger, it never happened to me, and today with security and terrorism in mind, it is apparently impossible. And so the book is the next best thing. Things are described in a way that the layman can understand. I admit that there were parts that exceeded my comprehension, but that is me and not the book. And what I didn't understand (I intend to reread the book soon) does not detract from the many things that I did understand.

I have chosen to write this review because I highly recommend this book for people like myself

INTERESTING SPIN ON ALIEN ABDUCTION EROTICA

I would classify this Novella as an Alien Forced Breeding Fantasy Erotica. It is longer than most novellas typically are in this sub-category of erotica so the price is fairly reasonable.

The plot/storyline was actually refreshingly different from the trite reasons for alien breeding abduction stories and the sex scenes were really HOT. However, the alien creatures themselves didn't appeal to me. Even in a fantasy setting, I would find them replusive mainly because in real life I am highly afraid of lizards in any form. Yuck!!! I know go adead and laugh at me all my friends do. Futhermore, I know that this a totally irrationl fear. Nevertheless, if I could find a way of getting rid of ever lizard in my immediate surroundings I would. I've actually searched online for a "Lizard repellant" but without success. :)

Anyway, back to the story! Despite my personal adversion, the story was quite good and I felt it would be unfair to give it a low rating just because I suffer from an irrational fear. I actually like Natasha, Zeb and Lor. The author successfully made the latter two seems somewhat human in their emotions for Natasha. After reading captions from the other two books currently available in the series I can tell that this story is only going to get better and better. However, as you might expect I don't think I will continue reading the Series, but right now that's not definite because I really like the dynamics of the tale. I'm torn! LOL

In any case, for anyone without my particular phobia and who likes alien abduction erotica I recommend this book and the series. I do plan to check out some of the authours books.

What I liked in whole of the book: The stories are short enough to be read at any time, the instructions are easy to follow, the accompanied poses/movement/dance are easy to understand and do physically for any child and could easily be modified for a special needs individual, the illustrations are drawn by children for children with colorful hues that are soothing, creating a sense of peacefulness if perhaps one may want to just read the stories, the words are easy reader even for a young child, the musical CD by Gavin Frank, could also be listened to solo, his voice gives way to not only affirm and move, yet listened to at bedtime might lullaby one gently into peaceful slumber, all the elements of this book create a sense of altruism.

Having worked with children most all my life in a myriad of settings, I can assure you Rainbow Children, is a fundamental resource that inspires, initiates, involves, a new world for the new dawn of children that gift us and our earth in this evolution that is awakening within us all in this time of transformation. Blessed be to Linda Ananda for gifting us with such an extraordinary offering and to Gavin Frank for sharing his rhythmic expression of voice.

prompts my own imagination

I got this for my granddaughters--3 & 19 months old. They are very different--1 very active, the other, contemplative. This worked for both of them. The 3 yr old loved the postures, the younger one loved the pictures. I can see this as a great tool to help them grow up mindfully--& having fun with it!! I even had fun showing the postures to them!! I gave it only 4 stars because it needs some interpretation with the symbols but then--what fun! I can see how this could be great fun in a group/classroom setting. We shall see how my granddaughters grow into this.

About the Author
Author and playwright Betty Jean Lifton is a leading advocate for adoption reform and an adoption counselor. Her books include Twice Born: Memoirs of an Adopted Daughter, the novel I'm Still Me, and, most recently, The King of Children: A Biography of Janusz Korczak. She lives with her husband, the author and psychiatrist Robert Jay Lifton, in New York City.

A must-read for adoptees who are searching/reunited

Most Triadians (adoptees, birth parents, adoptive parents) know that BJ Lifton is one of the definitive voices on adoption issues, and this book is one of my personal favorites of hers. If you buy no other search/reunion book, this is the one to have IMO.
I began my search for my birthmother in 1986, locating her finally in 1997. "Lost and Found" in particular helped me to deal with a lot of the issues that come up while searching, AND once you are reunited. There are even chapters on birthfathers and on siblings, something most books fail to mention or deal with.
It is important for those who decide to search to carefully consider their reasons for searching, and also to think about what their expectations are. If you are not prepared for the possibility of "anything can happen", you may be highly dissapointed or even devasted by the results.
I am glad that I chose to search, it has made my life complete in a way that wouldn't have been possible before I had the answers to my questions about where I came from, and who "my people" were. Though my reunion has had some major ups and downs, I don't regret my decision and I thank BJ Lifton for her insights that helped me get through the entire process.

If you read only one...this is it.

In my life, reunion wasn't reality until my life was my own-so I went about it with some organizational ability. Information and what to do with it was what I wanted and this gave me great help in that direction. Those triad members who believe their status hasn't affected their lives, just haven't figured it out yet. My adoption 50 years ago has colored every relationship since that first one that ended (physically) 3 weeks after my birth. In order to put together the pieces of 'why' I am....important parts needed to be found, so I set about looking. BJ Lifton helped with a compassion I hadn't found before her book. There are many emotions connected with searching-and finding-no matter how pleasant or how ugly-and one Can't anticipate many of them without some help. Help is within the pages of this one. The one piece of information-above all else-she taught me, was that my search was mine. I owned it and could choose to do it, or not, at my level of comfort. After reunion, boundaries need to be built, in order to protect that comfort. The book helped me start that so when the time came, I could hold back until I knew just how far I could go-how far I could allow the others to come. All in all, it was like having a big sister, walk through it with me. She's a good friend-even if she's not aware I'm out here! Thank you BJ!

A straight forward book on adoption.

As an adoptee, there are many questions and emotions that one is often too scared to ask or express. Lifton goes beyond the "taboo" of adoption in this book not only with her own experiences, but also the experiences of others. In "Lost and Found", all aspects of adoption are discussed, from all views (adoptee, adoptive parent, birthparent). Reading this helped me understand my own feelings, and to better understand the feelings of my parents, and my birth mother.

Quickly arrived. Perfect condition. I will utilize the book even after the class is finished. It is great to help teach students how to read and wrote. Great reference too. Price was great, better than the book store or other online cites.
