Not a bad little book, More about life that sales, but ...

Here's my take on this book, it's more the author talking about life and what happens along the way. We get his back story, and how he got into sales. We learn about his motivators and how to apply them in our circumstances.

The major talk on cold calling doesn't come until the last chapter. Am I inspired to go knock doors, or hit the phones - I'm not sure.

Doesn't really matter, I took two gems from this book:

1) "If someone tells you they are perfect slap them because they are lying to you."

2) "Why do they put erasers on pencils? Erasers give you the opportunity to erase mistakes."

I know I'm going to keep those two quotes close by, and use them whenever I can. I can think of a few people I want to slap already.

It's short, well written, and entertaining. Might as well add it to your library.

I received a copy of this book from the author. I have over ten years experience in sales, I like his take on this subject. Cold caling is hard work. The author offers practical tips to help you strategize and put more money in your pocket.

I found this book interesting, smart, easy to read, and witty. I especially like chapters on keeping a sales journal and the salesman diet. This is a must read for anyone just getting in sales, starting a new business and/or looking to increase their income.

I'm handy but untrained, being self-taught in just about all matters d. i. y. This book gave me the ability to use and understand a multimeter, which, as all you better trained, or experienced, handypersons know, is a very useful skill.

What a waste of $3

What a waste of $3.00, and an e-book no less written by some amateur in the UK, using their English. I thought this would help me troubleshoot auto related issues, home appliance type issues, and generally simple electrical problems. Not measure a 9v battery, the value of a simple resistor, or test a light bulb.

Try finding a simple pamphlet or "REAL BOOK" on how to use a multi-meter, you know, something you can actually carry out to your car while you are troubleshooting it.

Snow Leopard Visual Guide with a little bit of MacBook thrown in

The title of this book and the editorial description are both lame. This is not a book about using (just) your MacBook - but, rather, a Snow Leopard-specific introduction to using any Mac. The only thing that is really MacBook specific - vs iMac or Mac Pro - is the brief illustration that shows what the various ports are.

This book is only for you if you have an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6).

Note, too, that every Mac comes with iLife, yet this book does not make mention of any of the iLife applications.

While beautifully laid out and illustrated with screen captures, the editorial content of the book seems to have not been reviewed by a Mac expert, as there are numerous issues throughout that are either awkward, or not appropriate for a typical user.

In the first pages, the author notes the use of context menus via clicking a right mouse button, but does not note that with certain Apple mice, the right button must be enabled in the System Preferences first. He then talks about control-clicking (the way to get a secondary click with a single / left mouse button) on the trackpad - and does not mention the more convenient trackpad methods until much later in Chapter 8.

He notes that folders can be dragged to the dock, but does not point out that they can only be dragged to the right side of the dock only. This is unfortunately typical of the almost-correct instructions throughout the book that a knowledgeable reviewer / editor might have helped smooth out.

On page 23, in a sidebar box called "Remember your Gestures!", Ray talks about four-finger swipe, etc., on the trackpad - but he does not introduce these until pages 213-214 in Chapter 8. Even there, they are not adequately described. Sort of hard to "remember" them on page 23 if you don't see it for another 200 pages.

Chapter 2 contains way too much information on extremely unusual network situations, breaking the flow of the whole book. Most of the content of this chapter belongs in an Appendix in my opinion. Much later, on page 150, Ray talks about sharing an internet connection in a way that most users would not understand ... or require.

Chapter 10 describes MobileMe backup before the more fundamental Time Machine backup.

The description of the keychain, which saves passwords, does not mention the importance of a secure login password to protect the (login) keychain. Describing Address Book, Ray implies that a name can only be a member of one group, not describing dragging into multiple groups and opt-clicking on a name to see which groups it belongs to. The description of displaying calendars in iCal is incorrect - suggesting that selecting a calendar displays its content, rather than checking the checkbox next to it.

The section on external monitors does not describe the designed-for-MacBook 24" Apple display or how to operate with the laptop lid closed and with the external monitor as the only active monitor.

The Time Machine pages do not describe at all how to restore files - or how Time Machine can intelligently recognize certain applications, such as Mail, iCal or Address Book and restore individual mail messages, addresses, etc.

So, after not describing fully or correctly many of the basics of using Snow Leopard, Ray then goes into describing how to access the LaunchDaemon lists to delete services, something that most users should stay far away from.

The description of installing a new hard drive (to replace the existing one) is unrealistic unless the drive is dead - suggesting that one reinstall Snow Leopard from the original installation disks. There is no mention of the more normal choices of (1) boot from the install disk and do a full restore from your Time Machine backup disk, or (2) attach the new disk via a USB or firewire cable and clone the old disk onto the new one before physical installation.

There is nothing in the book on how to burn data onto a CD or DVD via a Finder Burn Folder. There is no mention of how to create a zip file (via the Compress command in the file context menu).

In summary, a lot of good content that is beautifully displayed, however there are also a lot of errors and omissions and inappropriate material.

WHAT A 5 STAR READ!!

What a 5 star read! I woke up out of a dead sleep at 3 am to read this book and I'm so glad that I did!

I instantly fell in love with Jax. I absolutely hated Jason. From the start, something is off with him and I couldn't place it. The moment he drops Rowan off at the hospital and never shows up, I hated his guts.
Enter in Jax! It takes an amazing man to sit in the hospital with a stranger and want to make sure that person is okay. Even after she was discharged from the hospital, she was his first priority. He took the time to make Rowan fall in love with him. The way Jax and the guys looked after Lily, made me fall in love with them!

I cannot wait until the second book because I did not get enough of these two!

"He hands me a paper and a pen from his desk and surprises me when he takes Lily from me. “Hi sweet girl, wanna play in your bouncer while I go through an order? Do you?” His baby talk is adorable. “Are you sure you want to keep her in here? I can bring her and her bouncer with me.” “She’s fine.” He kisses me on my cheek and walks to her seat to buckle her in. He keeps smiling and talking to her the whole time and my heart lurches. I love him. I am in love with this man. The thought hits me like a freight train, but it makes complete sense. He has completely taken over my heart and clearly that of my daughters given the way she’s taken to him. She greets him with squeals when he comes over and reaches for him to hold her. Standing there with the realization that I’m in love makes me immobile."

Only a fool carries other people's envy, insecurities, and troubles into their future...Jax Stone

Curiosity and the sexy hunk-o-licious cover, helped me to decide to purchase, Fighting Envy by Jennifer Miller and add it to my Kindle library earlier this week. The story taking place in-between the lines, surprisingly helped me to escape into the lives of characters, Rowan Martin, Jackson "Jax" Stone and the entire group of MMA fighters that surrounded them.

Rowan grew up in an abusive household where her mother continually beat her down not only physically but mentally as well. Her twin brother Tyler protected her and their bond was solidified not only from birth but also the determination to escape from the horrible life they had endured as soon as they reach their eighteenth birthday. Rowan believed she was unable to be loved and that she was cursed like her mother and grandmother before her when it came to a healthy relationship with a man.

Jax is a humble, sexy hero that is instantly drawn to Rowan. Their meeting is unconventional to say the least, yet it joined them together forever. He recognized that on the outside she was truly beautiful and yearned to connect with her emotionally as well as physically. He wasn't looking for a one and done, one night stand, but a solid relationship. Once Jax made a promise he always kept it.

Their journey was filled with sadness, laughter, discovery of themselves and their fortitude to persevere, to be better than the model they had growing up. Each character brought a layer of humbleness and hope to the outcome. The more you learned about them the more you loved them. The secondary characters were an absolute blast to read about. They added humor and camaraderie to the story. This tight knit family opened their arms and hearts to Rowan to show her what true love and acceptance is all about.

Let me start by saying that I loved Fighting Envy... I mean, how could you not with a synopsis like that?! That being said, no matter how much I loved it, I still feel like it was lacking a bit in the drama department. I'm not a huge fan of drama just for the sake of having drama but in some cases it's warranted, and I believe that this is definitely one of those cases.

Rowan had a horrible childhood with a mom that was unhappy and never failed to mention that to her kids. She was a drunk, a druggie, and an all around horrible person. The prologue gives us a glimpse of what Rowan dealt with on a daily basis and it wasn't pretty.

Fast forward a few years and Rowan and her twin brother, Tyson, have moved far away from their mother and haven't spoken to her since. Rowan is pregnant, to a complete douche I might add, and Tyson is in jail. From the first chapter we know that Rowan's baby daddy is nothing but trouble but let me tell you... The bomb he drops at the end? I did not see that coming!

Jax is an MMA fighter who just happens to be in the emergency room getting fixed up when Rowan is there in labor. I absolutely loved their first meeting and couldn't wait to see how everything played out. You could just tell that Jax was going to be the perfect book boyfriend and he did not disappoint. He was there for Rowan when she needed someone most and even took care of her from afar for a while before she'd let him into her life.

Like I mentioned before, there was very little drama in this book and this would have easily been a five star read for me if there was a little something added. I mean, with all that Rowan's been through I expected a lot more, but once her and Jax got together it was a perfect cookie cutter romance. There was a little tension when Jason, Rowan's ex, shows back up but even that was solved rather quickly in my opinion. Heck, even a little cage bunny drama would have been warranted in this one.

Lack of drama aside, Fighting Envy was a great read and I absolutely cannot wait for the rest of this series. All the guys were awesome and I know I'm going to love watching them meet the woman that brings them to their knees.

Comprehensive and very well put together.

I've read many books on this subject. The best thing about this book is that it gives you hope. 3 stages to this diet and easily explained with common sense and science. The recipes are easy and wonderful. There are appropriate lists of foods that help you see how to plan. This is not a "fad book" but brilliantly put together by women who know the subject and have lived the misery. There is simply not one negative I could say about this. It is the only book I've seen that gives a person a complete understanding of what is going on within the body, the consequences, and a way out that leaves you with a positive outlook. Gone are the absolutes of a bland menu. The ideas are new and undated. Everyone has their own version of things, as is said, but this is a plan that is possible to follow and also enjoy at the same time. Not kidding. The recipes are good enough for someone not suffering the condition also. Good for guys too. We can get this imbalance also. You can't lose.

Not the book I thought it would be...

There are many columns and lists of foods that are either good or bad but the layout often makes it difficult to interpret and some of the lists need far more clarification. Many of the recipes were just not things the average person needing to make a dietary transition would want to try. I found the Complete Candida Yeast Guidebook to be far more readable, user friendly, informative and a better bang for the buck.

Great Advice for clean eating

This book arrived quickly, it's been years now, but I wanted to write to say that this book was key in clearing up my skin from horrible cystic acne which plagued my face for most of my youth and well into my early 20's. I am thirty now, my skin is free of those red bumps and I keep white flour and sugar at a minimum. The only thing I do not agree with, is the perpetuation by the author of the misconception that yoga helps clear acne skin. Yoga is sun worship, it can lead to demonic oppression, it is dangerous and I became suicidal. What use is it to have clear skin, if you won't enjoy it because you feel like crap most of the time? Any healthy level of physical activity will help release toxins out of your body. The diet advice is great, but the religious stuff no thanks. If you want to be at peace say the Lord's Prayer that's my religious advice
