Born in 1970, Anna Gavalda was a teacher whose collection of stories, I Wish Someone Were Waiting for Me Somewhere, shot her to fame (published in Vintage together with her novella, Someone I Loved). I found this book gripping and interesting in the beginning but the ending was a bit trite and predictable. I also found it hard to believe that a woman would ever develop a romantic interest in a boy she had watched grow up from a young child.

Wow--the book is in English, German and French! I mean that literally--every title and caption is in all 3 languages and each page of text is divided into 3 columns, one for each language. This book is interesting just to see how much longer or shorter the passages are (French is almost always the longest).

This is a book that I got for Morris's influence on needlework. Then I saw the chapters on woven textiles, tapestry, carpets, calligraphy...wow. Then I found myself browsing the entire book because this man really was a genius. Some of his designs are over-the-top for me but that doesn't take away from his brilliance at all.

This is a nice, hefty book, filled to the brim with big, beautiful, breath-taking photos. You really get a sense of his style in all these arts.

I enjoyed both the text and the pictures in this book. Certainly this is a fine show of Morris's decoration. It is also a good starting place to begin exploring the Arts & Crafts movement that followed from Morris's work.

We would need William Morris'ideas nowdays. He understood the importance of hands and mind in art and hated the guilty factories and industries that killed arts and crafts...that's why he is so modern...Was he wrong? Absolutely not!

The clearest, richest, most fruitful writing on architecture since Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture by Venturi. Scruton's argument is narrow but it is not wrong. He indulges in a prescriptive conclusion that will frustrate Modernists who don't read carefully — which has limited Scruton's audience — but his analysis applies to all modes of design and will enrich the work of any thoughtful architect working today.

Agile Project Management

I've purchased many "...for Dummies" books in the past but this is the first one I've actually read cover-to-cover. If you are familiar with the "...for Dummies" series, you know what you're going to get: a nuts and bolts, start with the basics, type of book. Having knowledge of and experience in the traditional waterfall project methodology for software development and delivery, I wanted to learn more about Agile Project Methodology but I wanted to make sure I started with a solid foundation. If your plan is the same as mine, this book fits the bill. It begins with background information (Ch. 1), then the Agile Manifesto and the 12 Agile Principles (Ch. 2) and builds on that each chapter thereafter. Besides the key terms, definitions, project team roles, Agile in practice, etc.... this book delves into topics such as procurement, working with vendors, and project cost and budget considerations specific to Agile projects. If you read from cover-to-cover, you will notice some repetition in the book; intended for those who use the book as a reference - read a section here, chapter there, skip ahead. I didn't mind it. In fact, I used it to my learning advantage. I feel confident in what I have learned here, so much so, I feel I am ready to move on and tackle heftier Agile-specific topics

Very Informative - just like Mark's in-person classes

I was able to attend one of Mark's Certified Scrum Master classes through his company, Platinum Edge, and it was such a great course I had to buy this Agile Project Management book to follow. Similar to Mark's in-person teaching style, this book was extremely informative and easy to understand. I also bought Scrum for Dummies and am excited to read that too!

I read this book prior to taking an Agile class from the author. And I'm glad I did, since his 16-hour lecture/workshop was jam-packed with concepts that were new to me. Once I understood it, I realized that Agile is the way of the software industry. Yet it can be applied to most human endeavors with good results.
